Hmmm, weird.

I am using handpaintedyarns merino laceweight wool for my icarus on no.2 US needles. Last night I just started my 3 repeat of the first chart and I am concerned. It looks a bit small. There is really no length to it yet, maybe about 8 inches when stretched, but it is getting wider. When does the real length come in? Everyone elses looks longer than mine, could I be using to small of needles? Would I probably have to add another repeat of the chart ( I have a ton of wool to do it with)?

Hmmm.

I will be no help with your questions because I haven't cast on yet, but... I love the way this looks. I will be using handpaintedyarns laceweight too. I just haven't decided on a color. I'll be keeping an eye on yours to see how it turns out! It's gorgeous so far!

Kristen, when I started my Icarus the first time I used size 2's and it was much smaller than the second time around using 3's with the same yarn. Did you make a swatch that you can block to see how much bigger it will get in the blocking?

no, hahahaha.

i tried with 3's at the beginging and my tension is quite loose so it was really holy. It does stretch quite alot though. I have a ton of the yarn so I can always add repeats

I knit mine on 3's. It really will keep growing - and don't forget you add on about half of the repeat even after you complete the fourth. Then the feathers! And it will grow a ton when you block it, I'm pretty sure. Mine did.

I did 5 repeats before the feathers.

The way I gauged it was I measured across the top and added about 1/3 more to it for a top width after blocking. If it seems to small, I'd add a repeat.

I'm going to keep it and just add another repeat.
