I give. I've abandoned Icarus for now and started on More than Circular from Knitter's Magazine Best Shawl and Scarves book. I've finally gotten the hang of starting a circular shawl on double points. Well, that is, after at least six separate tries, and at least two efforts to cheat by doing several rows on one needle and then trying to turn it into a circle. It is looking beautiful; I'm really pleased by how the handdyed bamboo works with the pattern.

Back to Icarus another day, with a different yarn.
