Another repeat?

Go for Wingspan?

I need advice! I've finished the Chart #1 section as written (I think it's chart #1 - the one before the 'real' lace work), and was planning on doing an extra repeat, just to be on the safe side. I've never knit lace before, and I have no idea how much it will really block out once I get it off the needles. So I measured - right now, the center line measures about 17 inches and each side is about 22 inches when I pull on the yarn a little...

I've read (in the Yarn Harlot book) that a shawl should be about the size of your 'wingspan' - and I am not 44 inches tall. Any thoughts on this from y'all? Thanks!

If it helps: my shawl grew about 10 inches in each direction after blocking (you can see some info in my post today).

I'm about 5'3", and a shawl about 55-60" wide and 35-40" long is right for me to be able to wrap it around a bit but not so huge that it's dragging.

I'm glad you posted about this, because I'm close to finishing chart 1 and mine seems rather small too. I'll be interested to see what you decide.

Someone suggested that I thread mine onto a piece of scrap yarn, block it and see how it looks then. You could try that...?
